That 70's feeling! - Mocha Fondue

If you are treating Mum to a home cooked meal this Mother's Day, have you thought about dessert?

Being born in the 70's or being a fan of all things retro, you can't go wrong with the very social fondue dish.

Whilst fondue is not so popular anymore, you do see the occasional recipe posted here and there by those that understand the enjoyment that comes from sharing a meal.

The traditional fondue is cheese, with bread and vegetables used to dip in the molten liquid. Years ago I was given a fondue dish and a recipe book. The book is VERY 70's with it's layout and pictures, however, some of the recipes are divine and I have made them again and again when I have had a crowd for dinner. It's such a social experience, all dipping into the same pot, chatting and laughing, so perfect for a day like Mother's Day.

For a sweet fondue you want plenty of choice of dipping fruits as well as cookies, marshmallows, cubes of cake and if being really retro, sponge fingers!

Here we have a selection of grapes, halved strawberries, marshmallows and heart shaped cookies. You can't just skewer the cookies of course, these need to be dipped with your fingers! This can be tricky and of course the fondue will be hot, so keep little ones away and dip for them!

This mocha fondue has enough coffee kick to satisfy the adults whilst providing a serious chocolate fix for everyone!

Dark and decadent! Well Mum deserves to be spoilt right?

MOCHA FONDUE

Serves 4

225g plain chocolate
1 tbs instant coffee powder
6fl oz double cream (I used Elmlea to keep it a little light!) plus a little for swirling
1 tbs sherry

Break chocolate into pieces and mix with the coffee powder. Place cream in the fondue pan and add the chocolate/coffee mix. Heat gently, stirring until smooth and blended. Add the sherry. Finally swirl with cream. Be careful as fondue dishes can get very hot and the mixture can burn. We turned ours off after a while and it stayed nice and smooth for a long time!

There you have it! So simple and so tasty! This got a big thumbs up from big to small mainly because of the amount of things you can dip into it and what a treat it makes!

We did get through most of this!

Of course, this doesn't have to be for Mother's Day. It can be for any occasion. You could even have this instead of dinner. Now that sounds like a plan! Dig in!

Happy Mother's Day!
